Program 04 · Legal Technology

Legal
Technology

We build the digital infrastructure the human rights legal community lacks — open-access tools that multiply the impact of every lawyer, researcher, and civil society actor working to challenge unjust laws. All free. All open. All designed for the communities that need them most.

Why Technology

Technology as
Multiplier

A lawyer who challenges an unjust law changes the lives of those directly affected. A lawyer who trains ten more lawyers multiplies that impact tenfold. A technology platform that enables thousands of lawyers to identify and challenge unjust laws changes the trajectory of human rights protection globally. That is the logic of OLJA's legal technology programme.

Our Tools

Three Open-Access
Platforms

All OLJA technology tools are open-access, free to use, multilingual, and designed with and for the communities that need them — not for institutional convenience.

01
🤖
OLJA AI Rights Check

An AI-powered tool that allows anyone to input a law, regulation, or practice and receive an instant preliminary assessment of its compatibility with international human rights standards. Supports 9 languages. Designed for use by community members, paralegal workers, journalists, and lawyers in low-resource settings.

02
📊
IHL Compliance Tracker

A real-time monitoring platform that tracks compliance with international humanitarian law in active armed conflicts — documenting violations, mapping accountability gaps, and generating evidence-based reports for use in litigation, advocacy, and UN mechanisms. Feeds directly into the LexGlobal database.

03
🔔
OLJA Alert System

A legislative monitoring and early-warning system that alerts subscribing lawyers, civil society organizations, and human rights defenders when rights-threatening legislation is introduced, passed, or amended in any of the 193 monitored jurisdictions. Enables rapid legal response before laws cause irreversible harm.

Design Principles

Built for the
People Who Need It

🌍
Multilingual by Design

All tools are built multilingual from the ground up — not translated as an afterthought. Currently supporting 9 languages with expansion to 20+ planned.

🔓
Radically Open Access

No registration, no paywall, no institutional login required. If you need the tool, you can use it. Full stop.

📱
Low-Bandwidth Optimised

Designed to work on mobile devices with limited connectivity — because the communities most affected by human rights violations are rarely in high-bandwidth environments.

🔒
Security First

End-to-end encryption, no user data storage, and anonymous access options — because human rights defenders face real surveillance risks that we take seriously.
